Introducing Pineal, one of the standout pieces from my collection—this larger kinetic sculpture features 36-inch diameter pattern wheels that create a stunning visual experience. Unlike my smaller sculptures that can be a bit more lively, Pineal rotates slowly, bringing a serene and calming effect to any space. It’s the perfect piece if you're looking to add a touch of tranquility to your environment.

To keep things sleek and minimalist, I’ve reduced the size of the frame, allowing the pattern wheels to take center stage. The result is a clean, modern look where the wheels almost seem to float on the wall.

One of the unique features of Pineal is its winding pulley. The pulley’s position can be adjusted anywhere below the pattern wheels to suit your aesthetic preferences, adding a level of customization to your display. I’ve also taken extra care in the details—both the winding pulley and the center end caps are inlaid with polymer-coated aluminum, giving the sculpture a sophisticated and artistic flair.

As for the drive mechanism, I opted for polished brass pins instead of wooden ratchet wheels often used in lower quality sculptures. This choice not only adds a touch of luxury but also ensures Pineal's reliability and longevity. The sculpture is powered by a stainless steel constant force spring, which consistently powers the pattern wheels through a steel spring belt. Unlike rubber belts, which harden and lose elasticity over time, the steel belt keeps everything running smoothly for years to come.

Winding Pineal is simple and satisfying—just place your index finger on one of the lower pulley’s spokes and give it about 22 counterclockwise turns. After releasing the drive pulley, the sculpture receives its first push from the spring, setting the wheels in motion. From there, the pattern wheels spin freely until they slow down and reverse direction, triggering another push from the spring to keep the movement going.
